Jaws Wide Open part 3 by ~Ryman8989:iconRyman8989:

Daybreak. We spent the whole night in that barn waiting for the reinforcements that were promised to us. Morgan kept checking back with them over the radio to get an update on when exactly our backup would arrive. “Soon” they kept telling us. But soon wouldn’t be soon enough. Those barn doors wouldn’t hold forever and who knows how long the other hunters in the other buildings could withstand. It was only a matter of time now. A matter of time before those reinforcements would find our mutilated remains before succumbing to the same fate. But who in God’s name would have seen running zombies coming? No one, that’s who,.
I was sitting at the base of the ladder leading to the second floor waiting for God to decide that my time was up. But it would seem that God had decided that my purpose on this earth has not been fulfilled just yet. One of the other hunters tripped over something on the floor. When he investigated what it was, it turned out to be a hatch, a hatch leading to a lower level. The hunter shouted, “Commander!! Commander!! Come look!!” They opened it up and Morgan jumped in. She yelled back up “It looks like some kind of tunnel!”. Khyle paced back and forth, obviously trying to come up with a plan of action. He turned to one of the other hunters who was from his division and asked him, “ How many explosives do you have on you?”. He responded, “Enough to blow God off his throne”. Commander Khyle then told the rest of us to go down the tunnel and see where it leads, then wait for him. We left him and his soldier behind and headed down the tunnel. That tunnel could have taken us to hell itself but I didn’t care. As long as it lead away from those ghouls. I only wonder what’s happening back there with Khyle and that other hunter.

I’m sergeant Stillman, engineer in Commander Khyle’s division. Me and the commander have been planting the explosives I’ve been carrying all over the interior of the building while the others make their way down that tunnel private Woodward found. “Commander! I’ve finished placing the C4’s over here. How about you?”. The commander responded, “I’m done as well”. We both walked over to the hatch and just stared at it for a few seconds. I looked over at the commander and said, “Sir, it has been an honor following you into battle. But we both realize that one of us has to stay behind to set off the explosives, and I will be the one to it”. The commander nodded his head in agreement. Rather then give me a salute, he looked me straight in the eye and shook my hand. He told me “Stillman, you’re a good man, a loyal soldier, and one of the bravest hunters I will ever have the pleasure of working with. I’m just sorry this has to happen”. I told him it wasn’t his fault; no one could have planned to fight an enemy no one knew existed. We both said our farewells and he closed the hatch behind him. Then I took some rope and tied it to the bar on the barn doors, that bar was the only thing keeping those things from getting in. Then I climbed the ladder to the second floor, pulled on the rope, and the doors flew open. Those monsters came running in by the dozens. They had no idea about the hatch; all their eyes were focused on me. They gazed with dead eyes and rotting hands reaching up towards me. I waited a good ten minutes to make sure the commander and the others were far away from the blast. I then stood up with the detonator in hand, looked down at the zombies and said, “Sorry boys, the buffet is closed”.

We reached the end of the tunnel and decided to wait for Khyle to catch up with us. “How long are those two going to take?” asked Scott. That’s when Khyle came walking around the corner. Khyle asked, “Is everyone ready to go?”. Morgan asked him “Where’s Stillman?” That’s when we heard a loud explosion as the tunnel shook violently. When everything calmed down, Khlye said, “Lets go” and we all burst through the doors.
That tunnel took us about one hundred yard away from the barn. I took a hard look at the large fire coming from where the barn once stood, the flaming zombies coming out from it, and the dozens of other zombies that still stood. There had to be at least forty or fifty of those things still standing and about eight of us, not counting the other hunters in the other buildings. Those things finally took notice to us and started their charge.
I should have been scared but I wasn’t. I was excited. Deep down I always wanted to have a battle like this. I think my brother and me were the only ones in the group that had a big grin on our faces. Those ghouls were getting closer until one of their head exploded. The entire pack froze in their tracks and looked at their fallen comrade and then back at us. No one knew what happened until we realized there were some people standing in back of us.
It was a small squad, all barely wearing any body armor. They looked familiar but I couldn’t place my finger on it. Before I could figure it out, one of them turned around and whistled loudly. That signaled a large group of trucks to pull up and even more hunters poured out from them. All of them wearing the same type of body armor as the squad in front of us. It was then I remembered whose division they belonged to as their commander stepped forward. It was Commander Hopper, the living legend himself.
He walked over with his men and told us, “Good thing you guys at least saved some of them for us”. Then he drew his katana as the rest of his men drew their machetes. “Leave the rest to us, it’s been a while since we got stretch our legs anyway” Hopper told Commander Khlye. Hoppers division formed one solid line in front of us as the ghouls then started their mad charge again.
Without any form of barricade to block them, not one single zombie broke the hunters line. Despite their large number, all the ghouls fell under the blades of these highly skilled hunters. It was as if Hoppers and his men dealt with these kinds of zombies before. It only took five minutes for all he ghouls to be eradicated. Hopper and his men lowered their weapons and started to walk back to their trucks. The hunters who held themselves up in the other buildings started to come out now, now that all the zombies were dealt with. Khyle was pissed, he couldn’t handle the fact that he was defeated while Hopper just came along and saved them like it was nothing.
I heard someone calling out to me. It was Riley and Nick. They both survived the battle after all. Nick asked me who that was. I told him “Lets clean this mess up first, then I’ll tell you”.

Awww, I feel sorry for Stillman... but yeah, someone would have to do the job.
It's an interesting story as usual, I'm surprised at how you come up with all these good ideas all the time.
It's like you have an infinite amount of imagination inside you, and your knowledge of zombies combined with that imagination makes a damn good zombie novel.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter, Ryman.

What good is rushing towards adulthood? You're only gonna end up falling down the cliff.
It was Stillman's descision and he followed it...I felt bad about his sacrifice. Alagrande...You have a keen ability to keep a reader on their edge of their seats and not sitting still XDD.
